The world's fastest sailing event

The fastest sailing event on Earth meets six of the world's most iconic cities.

These boats are like nothing you've ever seen before – flying above the water, and reaching electrifying speeds of more than 50 knots (100 km/h). They are all designed equally, using cutting-edge technology, and are built with one purpose in mind: pure speed. The boats have no engines - instead they are fuelled only by their hard-working crews and powered by the wind.

At ROCKWOOL, we believe in harnessing the power of nature – and SailGP is a perfect fit for our values. That's why ROCKWOOL is proud to present the Denmark SailGP Team for the 2020 season.

Do you know the challenges of some of the most iconic cities in the world

What is SailGP?

SailGP is sailing redefined. Established in 2018 and headquartered in London and New York, SailGP is an annual, global sports league featuring bold, cutting-edge technology and awe-inspiring athleticism.

The fan-centric, inshore racing takes place in some of the most iconic harbors around the globe and culminates with a $1 million winner-takes-all match race. Rival national teams battle it out in identical supercharged F50 catamarans, engineered for intense racing at electrifying speeds exceeding 50 knots (nearly 60 mph/100 kph).

SailGP will utilize short-format, inshore stadium racing to maximize impact and excitement. Each grand prix will include two competition days featuring a total of five fleet races leading to a final match race between the two leaders. Points will be accumulated in each race throughout the season, culminating with a final match race between the top two teams for the SailGP Championship, with a USD $1 million purse and trophy presented to the winning team.

Connecting to Denmark's maritime tradition

Sailing is an inherently sustainable sport and Denmark as a country has a long and proud maritime tradition stretching back hundreds of years. We think the competition is a great opportunity to inspire a new generation of sailing enthusiasts, connecting back to Denmark’s maritime traditions as well as to today’s focus on sustainability

Sail GP, CEO Jens Birgerrson,

Communicating our optimism for the future

This sponsorship provides an excellent platform for ROCKWOOL to further build awareness on sustainability and create a connection between outdoor sports, urban living and the important role played by stone wool in enriching modern life. SailGP races take place in the heart of some of the largest iconic cities around the world. This provides the perfect backdrop for ROCKWOOL to better explain and showcase its purpose: to harness the power of stone and enrich modern living.

The different SailGP events will allow us communicate our optimism for the future, and to talk about the solutions that we have available to create that future. This will also bring a unique opportunity for us to engage with our customers and stakeholders globally in a new and exciting way.
